Opening Friday 31 March 2017 from 7:00pm
The artist, with a background in psychology and design, and a long-standing relationship with art work, presents twelve new works which will enliven the walls of the 2nd floor (Jewels & Watches) of the Brian & Barry Building for three weeks from 27 March to 16 April 2017.
The decision to exhibit in this innovative location in the heart of Milan was driven by the desire to unveil Polemica’s vision, which is that of a woman who is confronting the reality of our times.
This new series of works focuses on shapes and proportions: startlingly coloured vases fill the canvas, as huge as architecture, yet invisible to the man who passes by without noticing them because the present is hidden from his view.
It’s the paradox of life today: we’re not happy because we don’t have time to be, too busy building a happy future, pictured and planned according to modern standards.
The individual on the canvas is made tiny to show the gulf between what they would like to do and what they actually do.
Hence the title of the exhibition “The distance”: the distance there is between the life we dream of and the life we live. In this rift, made up of contradictions, lies the essence of so many lives of our day.
Polemica has set aside spatulas and brushes and painted the canvas by applying the oil colours mostly with her fingers. To restore the playful element to her work.
The result is an unusual contrast. This is its peculiarity: the use of a lens, Polemica’s lens, which changes the format, adapts the reality of the shapes and stamps it on the canvas with an ironic stare, although hidden behind a delicate image.
A journey through life today and through the reality in which we have to live and survive.
The opening reception will be held on 31 March 2017 from 7.00pm on the 2nd floor of the BBB - Via Durini 28 in Milan.
On the occasion of the opening evening refreshments will be provided.
Abbassavoce, from the Italian jazz scene, will perform.
